The Biomass and Biorefinery (B&B) Research Group, formerly known as the Environmental Biotechnology Research Group (EB Group), is an active research team within the Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences (FBSB) at UPM. Established in 2004 by Professor Dato’ Dr. Mohd Ali Hassan, the group has expanded notably and now includes ten full-time lecturers and researchers, as well as several associate members. The group’s leadership transitioned to Prof. Ts. Dr. Hidayah Ariffin in 2022. In 2024, it was renamed the Biomass & Biorefinery (B&B) Research Group, continuing its tradition of pioneering biotechnological innovations in agriculture and sustainability.  

The mission of converting sustainable and renewable bioresources into value-added green products, encapsulated by the tagline “Waste to Wealth through Biotechnology.” Some of the products produced from biorefinery are Nanocellulose and Biofertilizer.
